Let's just say it.
Having your picture taken can be awkward. I totally get that! Even though you may feel awkward and unnatural in front of the camera, I will be prompting you with natural poses that incorporate a lot of movement (talking to each other, walking, holding hands, or even dancing). You will be surprised at how much fun you have! Be ready to have a blast!
For expecting Momma's-
Maternity & Pregnancy Announcement
*Wear something that you are comfortable in and also feel good in! Feel free to bring a couple different options. Unbuttoned jeans with a neutral button-up or bralette, baggy linen pants, a fitted or flowy dress are all great options!
*Coordinate clothes with a neutral color scheme. Neutral colors photograph beautifully and help to give the most flattering skin tones.
*Please bring anything you would like in your photos! A sonogram (if you have one), baby booties, onesies, flowers, always make for cute props for maternity photos.
For families with littles-
Here are a few tips to help you and your family to have the best experience.
*Wear comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes. Avoid bright colored clothing and busy patterns. No graphic tees and no baseball caps, please!
*Focus on each other, not the camera. Look at each other, hold hands, dance, snag a hug or a kiss. I will be reminding you of all these things during our time together, so don't stress! Just make sure you are smiling, even if you are not looking directly at the camera. If your kid is running around and playing- I go with it! Sometimes they need me to play (and snag a few action shots) before they will sit and feel comfortable with me taking their pictures.
*Coordinate clothes with a neutral color scheme. Neutral colors photograph beautifully and help to give the most flattering skin tones. Beige, khaki, creamy white, and brown go together nicely. If you want a pop of color, you could add a muted color such as blush, burnt orange, light blue, or burgundy.
Note: Images look best when only 1 person in the family is wearing jeans.
Dads- please avoid wearing shorts or ball caps.
*Avoid apply any lip color that has plumper in it. We want you to be able to love and kiss on your littles without risking any skin irritations.
*Feed your kiddos before your session. Hangry kids never photograph well. Feel free to bring non messy snacks in case your kids need a little break (don't forget the wipes!)
*If your littles have a favorite comfort toy such as a stuffed animal or blanket, feel free to bring them along to help them warm up to the camera.
*Relax and have fun! I know that it can be stressful trying to get everyone ready on time, and trying to keep everyone looking after feeling their best beforehand. Leave your stresses behind and have fun with your beautiful littles!
I'm here to tell you that all of the thoughts you have about your kiddos NOT cooperating for pictures, are true. Usually when we tell a child to sit still, and smile... they are compelled to do the opposite. That's okay! I will be following your little ones around, snapping away and getting authentic poses and real smiles. If they aren't wanting to be still and smile for a more posed portrait look, don't stress! I will be sure to snap a few of those, but I prefer capturing the moments of snuggles, hugs, and play. Whichever direction they decide to run, just make sure you are smiling behind them!
Cake Smash Sessions
Feel free to bring several outfits! Cake smashes are always saved for the last portion of your session. If you are planning on just a diaper for the cake smash, please bring bloomers to cover up any diaper graphics. Overall bloomers are also a nice option (and also easy to slide off after your little one is covered in icing). The studio has a sink for rinsing, so please bring a towel to dry off if you'd like.
Winter Sessions
Feel free to bring scarves, hats, mittens that are photo appropriate in case it is chilly! When wearing neutral tones, adding a small pop of color with a scarf will make your photos look festive while keeping your kiddos warm.
